
Government has paid assistance to the farmers of the state for crop damage. The farmers of the district are happy as the farmers of Surat are also benefiting.
The state government has taken up the work of paying assistance to the farmers against crop damage quickly. Unseasonal rains (Mavatha) in Surat city and district in the month of October caused widespread damage to farmers' crops. After this loss, the farmers of Surat district will be helped as the payment of assistance has started in a short period of only 10 days.
The government has directly deposited an amount of ₹ 11 crore 27 lakh in the bank accounts of a total of 5,589 farmers. Farmer leaders have applauded this prompt action of the government. A total of 19,295 farmers had applied for crop damage assistance till December 5, who are also being disbursed in phases. The highest assistance of ₹4.91 crore has been paid to 2,006 farmers in Allpad taluk. Apart from this, Mandvi, Mahuwa and Umarpada talukas are also among the top four talukas receiving assistance. The agriculture department estimated the loss at over ₹51 crore to over 24,000 farmers in the district. Rest of the applicants will also get assistance in coming days.
