Team Africa under the captaincy of Temba Bavuma lost the three-match ODI series 2–1 despite achieving a clean sweep of the two-match Test series. The African team also lost the subsequent five-match T20 series 3-1.
Bavuma breaks 'silence'
During this period, both the teams made some controversial comments, which started a debate in the cricket world. One such comment was made by Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah about South African captain Temba Bavuma. However, Bumrah also apologized for the remark. Meanwhile, South African captain Bavuma has broken his silence on Bumrah's comment.
The first match of the two-match Test series between India and South Africa was played at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata. In this match, Jasprit Bumrah made an LBW appeal against Temba Bavuma during his bowling and then called him 'Bauna', which was clearly heard by all on the stump mic. Interestingly, even after passing such a comment by Bumrah, Bavuma did not comment.
Bumrah apologized
However, Bavuma has now responded to the entire incident in an ESPNcricinfo column, writing, “I know what happened to me, in which he said something about me in his language. However, after the day's play, Rishabh Pant-Jasprit Bumrah came and also apologised.
It is worth noting that, when he apologized, I did not know what had happened. After this I spoke to my media manager.” Bavuma added, “I think what happens on the field should be left there. However, you can never forget what you were told. You can use it as an inspiration for yourself.”
Conrad faced criticism
South African coach Shukri Conrad made controversial comments about Team India during the Guwahati Test, for which he also faced a lot of criticism. Bavuma also referred to his head coach's statement in his column.
It read, “When I first heard his statement, I didn't like it either but I remember how tough this Test series was.” Shukri addressed his comments during the ODI series and put an end to the issue there.
