India's explosive opening batsman Abhishek Sharma has said that he is now adopting a more aggressive style of play in the T20 international powerplay like former captain Rohit Sharma after being encouraged by coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Suryakumar Yadav.
Strike rate close to 200
Abhishek made his T20 international debut in July 2024 and has topped the batting rankings with his aggressive batting. In the 34 matches played so far, he has scored a total of 1199 runs with the help of 02 centuries and 07 half-centuries, in which his strike rate has been 190.92.
Talking about Rohit's influence, Abhishek said, “Rohit bhai has done a lot for the country. The kind of opening he used to give in the powerplay always put pressure on the opposition team.”
Rohit is following in his brother's footsteps: Abhishek Sharma
Abhishek further added, “What's special is that when I came into the team, the coach and the captain expected the same from me. I think it suits my batting style as well, as I like to play aggressively right from the start. I'm following in Rohit bhai's footsteps and I'm happy to play like that and do well for India.”
Abhishek said, he definitely needs improvement in batting but he is clear about his role. He also said, “It's not like I'm fully matured but I think my role is to play aggressive cricket in the first 6 overs.”
What was said with the World Cup in mind?
Talking about the World Cup, Abhishek said, “If I want to play aggressive cricket, I have to practice specially. However, I practice before the match. Also, when I get a week or ten days, I keep in mind what kind of bowlers I have to face in the next match.”
