Cricketers like KL Rahul could not even open an account at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. So a batsman like Pathum Nisanka returned to the pavilion after scoring 1 run on this pitch. Then the 22-year-old player Sameer Rizvi performed brilliantly. Sameer Rizvi scored a half century.
Rizvi's half-century is special because at one point Delhi lost 4 wickets for just 26 runs and the batsman showed his batting prowess in such bad times. When Rizvi came to the crease, the team was under pressure, due to which Rizvi decided to take time at the crease.
Rizvi did not hit a single boundary in 13 balls. But he hit a six on the 14th ball. Rizvi hit 3 fours in Shahbaz Ahmed's over in the 10th over. In the 14th over, the player completed his half-century by hitting a six and a four off Aidan Markram.
Sameer Rizvi not only scored a half-century but also a century partnership with Stubbs. The player reached 100 off 72 balls, with Stubbs contributing 32. Rizvi was earlier with Chennai Super Kings but was later released.
Delhi Capitals then reposed faith in him, and now the player is living up to that faith.
Ahead of IPL 2025, Delhi Capitals bought Sameer Rizvi in the auction for just 95 lakhs. Last year against Punjab Kings, Rizvi scored a quick 58 runs in 25 balls.
DC then retained Rizvi ahead of the 2026 IPL season. The player from Uttar Pradesh has now started this season with a bang. He could prove to be a key player for Delhi this season. (All photos: PTI)
