Dhawit Mehta, 27, from Anand, Gujarat, has had a remarkable journey – from coding labs in India to working in the corporate world in Europe, and finally reaching the pinnacle of academic excellence at IIM Bangalore. Here, he won a gold medal and earned a place on the institute's prestigious 'Wall of Fame'. After Aditya Shah (PGP 2022–24), Dhawit is the second Gujarati to win a gold medal for academic performance at IIM Bangalore. His journey started from Anand's Anandalaya School.
Dual degree
Dhawit completed his schooling in 2016. Subsequently, he obtained a dual degree (B.Tech and M.Tech) in Computer Science from IIIT Allahabad. Keen on coding since childhood, he chose this institute – rather than the nearby options available in Gujarat – to get the best experience in the technical field. By the time he completed his studies in 2021, he had firmly set his sights on pursuing a career in the technology sector.
Worked in USA and Norway
Dhawit stepped into the professional world amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Initially, he worked at a US-based cloud company before moving to Microsoft. In July 2022, he moved to Norway to work as a software engineer. Over the course of nearly two years, he made significant progress in this role. He got a promotion, and it felt like his global tech career was fully established.
To explore this interest deeper, he pursued a rigorous 'Chartered Financial Analyst' (CFA) program alongside his job. He successfully passed Level I and II of the program without any external coaching. This attempt later proved to be an important moment in his life.
Quit working at Microsoft
A major turning point in his journey came in 2024, when he took the bold decision to resign from his position at Microsoft Norway and return to India to pursue an MBA. His journey with management entrance exams had already begun. In 2021, with minimal preparation, he scored 98.5 percentile in CAT but decided not to take admission in IIM Indore. When he took the exam again in 2023, he received interview calls from several top institutes, including IIM Bangalore. At first, he was put on a waiting list, but eventually got into the PGP program.
