Some new and young faces will be included as cabinet ministers. Sources also told ANI that at a recent meeting, the president asked members of his political coalition to form a limited cabinet to run the government. Significantly, due to widespread anti-government protests in the country, the entire Sri Lankan cabinet resigned in the first week of April. Opposition parties in Sri Lanka have opposed the president’s decision to appoint a new cabinet with inexperienced ministers.
Parliament will meet on April 19 with the new ministers
President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is under pressure from opponents in the country. Meanwhile, a parliamentary session is also being planned. A new cabinet is being formed between the two events. Sri Lanka’s parliament is set to meet with new cabinet ministers on April 19, amid growing opposition. During the last parliamentary session, ruling party lawmakers said the president would not resign before the end of his term.
The crisis was caused by a shortage of foreign exchange
The reason for the crisis in Sri Lanka is that the country is facing a shortage of foreign exchange. This has affected its ability to import food and fuel. Sri Lanka has had to seek help from its neighbors due to shortage of essential items. Due to the economic situation, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa and President Gotabaya Rajapaksa have been asked to resign. There is strong opposition to the resignation of both.
