Before Bilawal’s arrival in Goa, information related to former Army Chief General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa has come to light. Bajwa has made many behind-the-scenes efforts to improve relations with India. On the other hand some people are believing that Bilawal Bhutto’s visit is very important.
Economy in recession and Kashmir vexing issue
Shahjad Chaudhary, an expert on India-Pakistan affairs, has written an article in the media. He wrote that Bajwa retired in November 2022. Whatever the allegations against him are, it is not known how true they are. But Pakistan’s India policy has not changed till date. Qamar Javed wanted to change this policy of playing, but he could not do so. According to him, Pakistan’s economy is going through recession.
The political situation of the country is very bad. Also, now Kashmir and India-Pakistan have become a boring and old issue for the world. According to him, India is moving fast in the world economically and politically. People of Kashmir have been paying the price for this issue for a long time now. Whatever arguments are given by Pakistan on this issue, they are completely low level. He says that we have to think about Kashmir because the people here have suffered a lot.
Need for dialogue at bilateral and international level
According to Shahjad Chaudhary, bilateral and international dialogue is needed to improve the lives of the people of Kashmir. Kashmiris are followed by Pakistanis. who are going through the worst economic times since partition. These people need relief and employment so that they can lead a better life. The dream of a good economy will come true only when trade with India resumes. Pakistan has to revive relations with India on a regional basis. According to him, the trade needs to be kept active by separating it from Kashmir and the LoC. There is a dire need to increase connectivity and communication if every resource is to be made available in Pakistan.
Why does Pakistan need India?
According to Shahzad, a famous politician of Pakistan, all these can run in parallel and can be carried forward in different ways. According to him, priority should be given to things which are simple and can be done easily. India may not need Pakistan today. But Pakistan needs India the most. Strategically, this is probably a bad situation but has to be thought about. It is better to reduce this relationship to a strategic co-relationship and this is possible before it deteriorates further.
