Saturday, February 10 brought good news for former Pakistan Prime Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan and his supporters. On the one hand, independent candidates supported by Imran Khan have won majority of seats in the general elections, most of which are supported by Imran Khan’s party, on the other hand, Pakistan’s Anti-Terrorism Court has granted bail to Imran Khan.
According to information, former Prime Minister Imran Khan and former Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi have been granted bail in 12 cases related to attacks on military installations in May last year. Imran and some of his party leaders are being prosecuted in multiple cases in connection with the May 9 violence last year. which damaged major military installations across Pakistan.
After the arrest of Imran Khan, there was a commotion
Imran Khan was arrested by paramilitary forces in Islamabad, following which protests broke out. During this period, more than 20 military establishments and state buildings were damaged, including the army headquarters in Rawalpindi. Along with this, the house of Corps Commander of Lahore, Askari Tower, Shadman Police Station were also targeted. Apart from this, police personnel were attacked outside Imran Khan’s Zaman Park residence.
Imran Khan was removed by a vote of no confidence
It may be noted that after the removal of Imran from the post of Prime Minister in April 2022, former Prime Minister Imran Khan and many leaders of his party are facing many cases. Imran was removed from the post of Prime Minister by a vote of no confidence. After which Imran Khan’s problems were increasing continuously.
3 years imprisonment in Toshakha case
In August last year, Imran Khan was sentenced to three years in jail in the Toshakha case, which related to the illegal sale of government gifts when he was prime minister. When the Islamabad High Court suspended his sentence. After this he was arrested in another case of leaking state secrets, known as the Cipher case, in which he was sentenced to 10 years in prison. The court barred Imran from contesting the elections and also took away his party’s election symbol bat from him.
Great performance of Imran’s party in general elections
Let us tell you that Imran Khan is in jail these days. Despite this, his party has performed well in the general elections held in the country. According to the report, PTI candidates have won more than 100 seats. However, Imran’s party is far from a majority. Elections were held on 265 seats in Pakistan, with a minimum of 133 seats required to form a government.
PML-N emerged as the largest party
Nawaz Sharif’s party PML-N has emerged as the single largest party in the elections. Meanwhile, Nawaz Sharif has also claimed to form the government. There is news that an agreement has been reached between PML-N and Zardari’s party PPP to form the government.
