Wheelchair cricket is a part of international cricket. Wheelchair cricket is a cricket game played by physically challenged persons. Wheelchair cricket has been played for a long time, especially in countries such as England, Australia and India, where cricket has cultural significance.
Institutions of formal bodies and leagues dedicated to wheelchair cricket have promoted the growth and development of wheelchair cricket. The Wheelchair Cricket Federation of India (WCFI) works to establish uniform rules for the game as well as categorize players into teams.
Wheelchair cricket has many similarities to traditional cricket, although the rules have been modified to accommodate players with disabilities.
In wheelchair cricket, physically challenged players use wheelchairs for running and fielding.
The game is usually played with a soft ball to reduce the risk of injury, and a light bat is used to hit shots easily.
The pitch and field can be adjusted to suit the needs of wheelchair players. In particular, the surface of the pitch must be suitable for wheelchairs to move around safely.
There is no concrete evidence as to when wheelchair cricket started in India, however, it is clear that just like Team India, this wheelchair cricket team is also a world class team and holds many records.
The first Wheelchair Cricket World Cup will take place in 2025 in the UAE. The Indian team will proudly participate in this historic World Cup. The International Council of Wheelchair Cricket, as the global governing body, is organizing the event.
The audience for this type of cricket is also very few and the sponsors are non-existent, but seeing his passion for the game every common citizen (physically fit person) can take inspiration from him. (all photo credit : IWCC / WCFI)
