The Indian men's team may have lost the Test series against New Zealand but the Indian women's team did not let that happen. In the third and deciding match of the ODI series against New Zealand, Team India defeated New Zealand by 6 wickets. With this, the Indian team has won 2-1 in the 3-match series.
The star of the match proved to be the team's vice-captain and veteran opener Smriti Mandhana (100), who ended the run drought and scored her record eighth ODI century. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur (59 not out) also scored a brilliant half-century to lead the team to victory.
New Zealand batted first in the last match of the series played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday 29 October and the team scored 232 runs in 50 overs. Deepti Sharma took 3 wickets and young spinner Priya Mishra took 2 wickets.
Team India got off to a bad start once again but this time not Smriti Mandhana but her opening partner Shefali Verma (12) got out in the fourth over. Having failed in the T20 World Cup and the last two ODIs, Smriti decided to play cautiously and stand at the crease this time. He was well supported by Yastika Bhatia and the duo took control of the situation with a strong partnership of 76 runs for the second wicket. Smriti also completed his half-century during this partnership.
After this, captain Harmanpreet Kaur came to the crease and along with vice-captain Mandhana ensured the team's victory. Both shared a 117-run partnership for the third wicket. Meanwhile, Harmanpreet quickly scored his fifty and shortly after Smriti (100 runs, 122 balls, 10 fours) also scored a brilliant century. Smriti was dismissed after scoring a century, but it did not affect the result and India won in 44.2 overs. (All Photo Credit : x/BCCI)
