Along with this, they also demanded to set up a police point near Ambedkar's statue to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.
What was the whole controversy?
It became the talk of the town for the last two days. On Saturday, some miscreants pelted gravel at Baba Saheb's statue and tried to break it. Because of this, a lot of resentment spread among the locals here. On the one hand, there was an uproar in Parliament over the issue of insulting Baba Saheb and this incident in Khokhara, Ahmedabad seemed to add fuel to the fire and the politicians also got another issue. Inspite of spending the whole day of Sunday in the matter of breaking the statue of Baba Saheb, the police did not arrest the accused, causing anger among the locals. Leaders of the area, locals announced Khokhra Bandh on Monday. A strict bandh was observed in the area till afternoon, after which the bandh turned into a mixed response. On the other hand, the Congress raised the issue of insulting Baba Saheb on the BJP and when they alleged that all this was happening at the behest of the BJP, the BJP also hit back. From Sunday to Monday, the cycle of accusations and counter-accusations continued. The controversy was finally calmed down by afternoon when the two accused who vandalized the statue were arrested.
It is revealed that the accused had broken the statue in an old enmity
Despite spending the whole day on Sunday, the anger of the locals was not caught and the people sat on dharna from Sunday itself. They demanded that they would not end the dharna until all the accused were arrested by the police. As the matter became more serious, the crime branch was also involved in the entire case and more than 1000 CCTVs of the area were checked and the CCTVs also became the main link in reaching the accused. By three o'clock on Monday afternoon, the police had nabbed the 2 accused and their interrogation revealed that the accused had damaged Ambedkar's statue with bad intent in an old enmity. There has been a dispute between the Nadia and Thakor communities in the Chali area of Jugandas for the past few years. Even in the year 2018, there were riots between the two communities and a complaint was registered against each other. It has been revealed that the arrested accused also have criminal past.
