In the PNB scam case of over Rs 13,000 crore, the problems of Nirav Modi’s brother Nehal Deepak Modi have increased further. US officials have arrested the demand of the Government of India. Nehal Modi has been accused of deliberately hiding evidence in the Nirav Modi scandal, threatening witnesses and playing an active role in hiding money related to scandal.
According to investigating agencies, when an investigation began in India, Nehl took 50kg of gold from a Dubai -based firestar Diamond FZE company and disappeared. He himself was monitoring the whole process and was trying to delete all the important records, accounts and data by its employees.
50 crore jewelry seized from Hong Kong
Nehal Modi also seized about $ 6 million (about Rs 50 crore) diamond jewelry, 150 boxes of pearls and 3.5 million dirham cash and 50kg of gold from Dubai. He did all this together with one of his colleagues Mihir Bhansali.
According to the Enforcement Directorate (ED), Nehl destroyed not only physical evidence but also digital evidence like mobile phone and server. All the digital data present in Dubai were completely destroyed.
India demanded extradition from the United States
ED says that Nehal Modi has committed a crime by involved in money laundering under Article 3 of PMLA and should be punished under section 4. The Government of India officially demanded Nehal Modi’s extradition, which has now been prosecuted by the United States, expecting that the process of bringing Nehal Modi to India in the coming days will begin.
The next hearing on extradition will be held on July 17
The next hearing in the Nehal Modi extradition case has been scheduled on July 17, 2025, with a status conference. During this time, a bail application can also be filed on behalf of Nehal Modi, which the US prosecution will oppose. The arrest is not only a strategic achievement for India’s investigating agencies, but it will also strengthen the process of reaching the bottom of the PNB scandal and bringing criminals into the law.
Red Corner Notice was issued in 2019
It is noteworthy that in 2019, Interpol issued a Red Corner notice against Nehal Modi. Earlier, an interpol notice has also been issued against his brothers Nirav Modi and Nishal Modi. Nehal is a citizen of Belgium and was born in Antwerp in the city of Belgium. He knows English, Hindi and Gujarati languages.
Nirav Modi is already locked in a UK jail and his extradition process is also underway. Nirav Modi and his uncle Mehul Choksi are the main culprits of the PNB scam, in which the bank suffered a loss of over Rs 13,000 crore.
