India's star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra missed out on defending his title at the Paris Olympics 2024. Neeraj Chopra narrowly missed out on winning the gold medal in a thrilling final held on the night of August 8 in Paris. Neeraj's arch-rival Arshad Nadeem broke the Olympic record with a stunning throw and won the gold medal. Arshad wrote his name on gold with a tremendous throw of 92.97 meters.
Throwing a foul in the first, a wonder in the second
Neeraj, who started well in every event, suffered a bit of a setback this time. His very first throw was fouled because when he fell into his follow-through after throwing the javelin, his right foot came slightly off line. Although his throw was over 86 meters, it was not considered.
Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem's first throw was also fouled but in the next throw, Arshad won the gold medal with a throw of 92.97 meters. Along with this, he also created a new Olympic record. Neeraj also made a comeback in the next throw and finished second with 89.45m.

Thus, Arshad Nadeem became the first Pakistani athlete to win a gold medal in an individual event at the Olympics. With this, Pakistan has succeeded in winning an Olympic medal after 32 years. Earlier, Pakistan won the bronze medal in men's hockey at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. He became only the third player to win an individual medal for Pakistan at the Olympics.

Fourth Indian to win two Olympic medals
With this, Neeraj has become the fourth Indian athlete to win two medals at the Olympics. Neeraj won gold with a throw of 87.58 meters in the Tokyo Olympic Games held three years ago. With this, Neeraj Chopra became only the second Indian to win an Olympic gold medal and the first athlete to win a medal in athletics. In that final, Neerj edged out Julian Weber, Jacob Wedlach and Johannes Vetter, who were already considered favorites to win the event. After this, Neeraj had previously won a silver medal in the World Championship 2022. He then became the first Indian to win the Diamond League title and after this he created history by winning the gold medal at the World Championship in 2023.
