The Champions Trophy 2025 was the first global cricket tournament in Pakistan, an important moment in the history of the country's game. But this tournament became a big problem not only for PCB but also for its players. First, the Pakistan team was eliminated from the tournament in the first round and since then, the salaries of local Pakistani players have also been reduced due to this tournament. In fact, this tournament has proven a major failure from a financial and logistical point of view. According to a report, the Pakistan Cricket Board suffered a loss of Rs 2383 crore during the tournament.
Terrible loss of PCB
According to The Telegraph report, PCB spent 18 billion rupees (about $ 58 million) to upgrade three stadiums in Rawalpindi, Lahore and Karachi. This was 50 percent more than their budget. In addition, he spent $ 40 million on the preparations for the program. However, they received only $ 6 million from hosting fees, ticket sales and sponsorship. This means that the PCB suffered nearly $ 85 million, which is about Rs 2383 crore in Pakistani currency.
The match was canceled due to rain
Apart from this, the team led by Mohammad Rizwan played only one match at home, which was against New Zealand at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. His next match against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi was canceled without tossing due to rain. Of the remaining eight matches in Pakistan, two matches were also canceled due to rain.
The players suffered heavy losses
The Telegraph report also states that after the PCB's defeat, its players will now face bad results. The match fee was reduced by 90 percent in the National T20 Championship and the payments were reduced by 87.5 percent to the reserve players. These players, who once lived in five star hotels, are now forced to stay in budget hotels, while administrators are getting salaries in millions.
The players' match fees were reduced
“PCB has recently reduced the match fee from Rs 40,000 to Rs 10,000 without any official announcement, though PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has canceled the decision and directed the local cricket department to review the matter,” the Pakistani newspaper The Dawn has recently revoked the matter. Although the PCB has not yet officially disclosed the amount given to the players, according to sources, the match fee has been fixed at Rs 30,000 per match, which is Rs 10,000 less than last year. It is clear that the condition of the Pakistan Cricket Board has deteriorated since the Champions Trophy.
