The traditional muhurta trading date on the occasion of Diwali has been announced in the Indian stock market. NSE has announced Muhurta trading on 8 November 2026. The date has been announced by the National Stock Exchange (NSE).
Muhurta trading is a special trading session held on the occasion of Diwali. It is considered auspicious in the Indian stock market and investors do business on this occasion with the beginning of the new Samvat.
As per the circular of NSE, the special live session of Diwali Muhurta trading will be on Sunday, 8 November 2026. This session is held in the afternoon. The continuous trading session in the normal market will open at 2:20 PM. Apart from this, the normal market will close at 3:30 PM for those stocks for which the closing auction session is not applicable.
Pre-open order entry will be from 2:05 PM to 2:10 PM. Some orders may be changed or canceled after this from 2:10 to 2:15 pm. In the last two minutes of this part, the system may automatically stop the time with a random method. Then from 2:15 PM to 2:17 PM the order will be matched and the trade will be confirmed. After that there will be a buffer period from 2:17 to 2:20 pm. The block deal session will be from 1:50 PM to 2:05 PM. In a block deal, large investors buy and sell a large number of stocks.
Now the question is, how will the business of the stocks which will have a closing auction be conducted? Let us tell you that the normal market of these stocks will close at 3:15 PM. From 3:15 to 3:20 pm reference price calculation and closing auction session will be processed.
The time for placing orders in the closing auction will be from 3:20 PM to 3:30 PM. After this, from 3:30 to 3:35 PM, orders will be matched and trades will be confirmed. Then there will be a transition period from 3:35 to 3:50 pm and a post-close session from 3:50 to 4 pm.
A special pre-open session for IPO and relisted shares will be held from 2:05 pm to 2:50 pm. After this the normal market of shares will run from 3:05 to 3:30 pm. In the last 10 minutes of special pre-opening, the system may close order entry by random method. Call auction session for underbought shares will be from 2:25 pm to 3:10 pm. In its last minute the system may close the session randomly. The time frame for changing trades is 2:20 PM to 4:15 PM.
Another question is, will there be settlement of trades done in muhurta trading? So the answer to this is ‘yes’. As per the NSE circular, all trades executed in this session will be liable for settlement. In simple language, after buying or selling shares payment and transfer of shares have to be completed under the prescribed procedure. So don’t consider muhurta trading as a mere symbolic purchase; The trades entered into therein will be genuine market trades.
