QS World Universities Rankings 2023: Of China in recent times (China)There is a lot of talk about universities being out of the global rankings. But now in the latest round of QS analysis, China for the emphasis on research (China QS Universities Ranking)Has been praised. Indeed, two Chinese higher education institutions have been ranked in the top 15 in the world. According to QS World University Rankings 2023, (QS World Ranking)China has the third largest share of the world’s top ranked universities. The ranking includes 71 universities in China. It is second only to the UK (90 universities) and the US (201 universities). Notably, not a single Chinese university was in the QS Top 15 Global Rankings until last year.
Peking University, which was ranked 18th in the QS 2022 rankings last year, has jumped six places to 12th this year. At the same time, Tsinghua University has risen from 17th place to 14th place in the world. The QS report states, “Both universities have increased their rankings due to their excellent performance in the QS Research Impact Indicator (CPF) and Faculty / Student Ratio (FSR) indicators. Both of these indicators act as a proxy for learning ability.
China is preparing to move out of the global ranking structure
These two dimensions of QS are 20-20 percent when creating rankings. Also included are Academic Reputation (40%), Employer Reputation (10%), International Faculty Ratio (5%) and International Student Ratio (5%). In fact, Chinese media reports last month said that many of the country’s top universities were planning to exit the global ranking structure led by analytics firms such as QS or Times Higher Education (THE). This is because President Xi Jinping’s government is rejecting foreign standards.
18 universities in China in the top 100
QS said the reason behind the improvement in the ranking of Chinese universities is the impact of research. China has at least 37 universities that have improved their research impact indicator (CPF) compared to last year. The QS report further states that due to the impact of research, 18 Chinese universities are among the top 100 universities in the world. Only America (22 universities) is ahead of them. “The higher education system has not improved as effectively in the last decade as China,” said Ben Soter, senior vice president of QS. Until 2018, not a single Chinese university was in the top 20.
