In fact, Dharamshalas run by the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Samiti, whose rent is Rs 1,000 per day, started charging GST on July 18, 2022 after the GST Council’s decision. In its tweet, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes has said that GST will not be applicable if the dharmasalas run by religious and charitable trusts are outside the boundaries of the religious place managed by the trust. According to CBIC, Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Samiti can get GST exemption on room rental.
Non-ICU rooms(Non-ICU Rooms) whose rent is more than 5,000 rupees per day. It was decided to levy 5% GST on it. After that, this new rule has come into effect from July 18, 2022. But since then this decision has been continuously criticised. Earlier, the Finance Minister had cleared the confusion of the people by tweeting many times.
