The teaser for the upcoming film Shotgun Wedding gives the impression that Darcy and Tom’s wedding will be a lovely, if little eccentric, celebration. All of the guests are present, including Darcy’s ex (Lenny Kravitz), who makes a daring helicopter entry during dinner, and the quirky future in-laws (Jennifer Coolidge). The dress has also been chosen, and the seating arrangement has been decided upon.
Darcy observes that “something doesn’t feel quite right” as she puts on her wedding dress and gets ready to go down the aisle. The wedding guests are waiting for the bride and groom at the seashore altar when they are suddenly ambushed and taken captive by a bunch of gunmen. It turns out that she is not having second thoughts.
Then, while being restrained to one another, Darcy and Tom must go on an adventure quest to save their bridal party from probable death. The video depicts the pair fighting off pirates by zip-lining, hurling explosives, firing firearms, and using a very terrifying cake knife. Along the way, they receive some assistance from their friends and family, including the machine gun-wielding character played by Coolidge.
Duhamel, who notably joined the movie after Armie Hammer left it over allegations of sexual assault, which Hammer has denied, witnessed a strange case of life mimicking art while shooting in the Dominican Republic.
Duhamel said that he had a terrifying incident in the ocean while filming in a May 2021 Tonight Show interview. He remembered, “The waves were smashing like 30 feet in the air.” As I was recording this, a stray wave practically washed me dangerously close to the cliff’s brink.
Fortunately, he just suffered minor scrapes, but if the movie’s trailer is any indication, his character Tom might not have the same luck.
