About 600 people were killed in the deadly terrorist attack in the city of Barsalogo in Burkina Faso in West Africa. Most of them include women and children. The massacre was carried out by members of Jamaat Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimeen (JNIM), which is affiliated to the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda.
One of the most devastating events in history
It is being told that this terrorist attack took place on August 24 when the people of the village were digging pits. He is accused of suppressing the news of the massacre that took place in August. The matter has now come under discussion. The attack is one of the deadliest in the history of restive Burkina Faso, which has been plagued by a growing jihadist insurgency since 2015.
According to the American news channel CNN, people said that armed militants on motorcycles entered the outskirts of the city and started firing indiscriminately at the people who were working on the pit. A person who survived the attack said that I started running into the ditch to escape. But it seemed as if the attackers were following me into the trench. There was blood everywhere on my road. There was screaming everywhere.
Another survivor reported that the violence continued throughout the day on 24 August. JNIM terrorists killed people all day, the man said, I lost two family members. According to ACLED (Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project), the local community had to work for three days after the attack to collect the bodies of their loved ones. A resident said there were so many bodies that burying them had become an almost impossible task.
3,800 people killed in 10 months
Initial United Nations (UN) estimates put the death toll at around 200. But citing French government security assessments, the report said the death toll could be as high as 600. ACLED said the tragic incident reflects the deteriorating security situation in Burkina Faso, where jihadist groups linked to al-Qaeda and the Islamic State (ISIS) have wreaked havoc. According to ACLED, terrorists have killed an estimated 3,800 people this year alone.
The conflict has forced more than 2 million people from their homes. African countries are facing serious humanitarian crisis due to terrorists. As violence escalated, the army's strategy of ordering locals to dig trenches for protection proved woefully ineffective. JNIM has warned the citizens not to support the army, further adding to the atmosphere of fear and instability in the region.
