Many users have been in trouble due to lack of working incometax.gov.in portal. Especially when the deadline of the ITR filing is only left for only hours left. In such a situation, the question is whether the CBDT will give an extension again.
According to ITR Deadline Live Updates, the income tax return (ITR) filing process for Assessment Year 2025-26 is underway. The deadline is September 15. So far more than 60 million returns have been filed, the Income Tax Department has informed.
Nevertheless, the demand for the deadline is being raised by several professional associations. Because many taxpayers are facing technical problems and logistical challenges. The HelpDesk 24×7 has been continued by the department, so that tax payments and filings can be assisted.
The original deadline was until July 31 this year, but it was too late to release new ITR forms after changes to the capital gains tax framework in the Interim Budget. Due to which the deadline was increased to September 15.
However, even after the extension, the return filing figure is lower than last year. In 2024, 7.6 crore returns were filed till July 31, while around 6 million returns have been filed till September 13 this year. As many as 7 million ITRs have been filed by 5:15 pm on September 15. Many people are still rushing to file returns as time is left.
