Prime Minister Narendra Modi (PM Modi)The government of is making plans keeping in view every section of the society. All the schemes have been implemented and many people are taking advantage of it. In this order now the Central Government is going to launch a new scheme for the care of the elderly. According to a report in Hindustan Times, the scheme will be called ‘PM Special Scheme’. Under this, medical care services will be provided to the elderly at home. The plan will create a systematic, reliable system of aging care professionals and also reduce costs.
Citing those familiar with the scheme, the newspaper said that under the scheme, about one lakh people would be trained in geriatric care-givers (geriatrics) in the next three years. The Ministry of Social Justice may start the training program within a week. An online portal will be created by the government, which will have a list of all registered and trained old age professionals. It will be like an e-marketplace. Here people will be able to see the availability of professionals for the care of the elderly at their convenience and hire them. The website is expected to launch by September.
Secretary, Ministry of Social Welfare, R. Subramaniam told HT that the needs of aging professionals have not yet been properly met. Adequately trained professionals are either not there to take care of the elderly, or even people don’t know about them. In such a situation people take services from wherever possible. Often even untrained people start doing this work, due to which the health and care of the elderly is not in safe hands. Apart from this the cost of care is also very high. Subramaniam said the government is now building its system professionally, which will be approved by the health ministry. This will provide quality care to the elderly and also reduce the cost.
The secretary said that anyone studying till 12th can apply for training to become an old professional. He said the government would provide free training to at least 10,000 people from SC, ST and other backward communities during the period. The scheme will provide employment to at least one lakh people. The biggest thing is that a proper care system for the elderly will be set up.
