The news related to football in India is not good. Indeed, FIFA is the apex body of football All India Football Federation(Indian Football Federation) has been suspended with immediate effect. FIFA has taken this step because of the Supreme Court’s intervention in the football federation. The AIFF’s suspension has also affected the Women’s Under-17 World Cup to be held in India. It is also now suspended. Let us tell you that the Under-17 Women’s World Cup was to be organized in India from October 11 to 30.
The cloud of suspension had been hanging over the All India Football Federation for a long time. And now what I feared happened. FIFA said the decision to suspend the Indian Football Association was taken unanimously.
FIFA statement on suspension of AIFF
“It was a unanimous decision of the Council to suspend the All India Football Federation with immediate effect,” FIFA said in its statement. That’s because there was a lot of third party interference, which was against FIFA’s rules and its position.”
When can the suspension be lifted?
Football’s apex body also said that the suspension from the All India Football Federation will now be lifted only when they start working together. According to FIFA, “the suspension from the AIFF will be lifted only when all its officials are fully in charge and overseeing its day-to-day activities.” Let it be known that currently the Committee of Administrators (CoA) constituted by the Supreme Court is interfering in the All India Football Federation.
Meaning of suspending AIFF
After the suspension of the All India Football Federation, India will no longer have to miss out on hosting only the Under-17 Women’s World Cup. Instead it will now affect the rest of the tournament as well, in which India will not be able to participate. AFC is scheduled to be held next year. If AIFF remains suspended, India will not be able to play in that tournament. Not only that, no foreign player can play in India’s football league ISL as well. Clearly this suspension means a lot. How far this goes remains to be seen.
